At its meeting on 12th December 2007 the Parish Council identified a need for four volunteers to fill important and useful roles. The positions are unpaid but they bring to their incumbents the satisfaction of seeing a job well done and of knowing that they have helped to make Yarnscombe an even better place in which to live. The posts are as follows:
Emergency Coordinator – to add flesh to the skeleton Parish Emergency Plan so that assistance can be given to vulnerable residents, e.g. the elderly, disabled or people with very young children, in case of emergencies.
Neighbourhood Watch Representative – to form and administer a Neighbourhood Watch scheme in Yarnscombe (one of only two parishes in the Torrington east area that does not have such a scheme). The evidence is that Neighbourhood Watch reduces the fear of crime and helps to unite communities. More information is available at www.neighbourhoodwatch.net
Parish Paths Partnership Warden – to act as the parish representative in the national Parish Paths Partnerships Scheme, whose main aim is to improve the condition of the local rights of way and keep them open and used properly. More information is available at http://www.devon.gov.uk/index/transport/public_rights_of_way/parish_paths_partnership_scheme.htm
Village Handyman (or woman) – to carry out minor repairs, refurbishments and improvements around the village, e.g. repainting the woodwork on the notice board case in the square. The cost of any materials used will be reimbursed.
If you feel able to help with any of the above, or would like further information before committing yourself, please contact Patrick Adams, Parish Council Chairman, on 01271 858202 or by e-mail.
